Kilduncan Eggs |

Kilduncan Eggs new flock of free range hens at Coal Farm are now fully free range! With super views of the Firth of Forth, they are lucky birds indeed. History of Coal Farm In 1947, Donald Peddie (not the present one) was persuaded by his sons, Andrew and Peter, to build a new byre to milk 42 cows on an area of ground that had been used to keep hens. Eggs were never forgotten by the Peddies, and the hens were moved to Kilduncan near Kingsbarnswhere eggs have been laid and sold since 1960. Battery cages came (and are now to be phased out) and set new standards for cleanliness in egg production. The byre at Coal Farm, meanwhile, underwent several upgrades, and the number of cows milked rose to 100. In 2007, his grandson Peter decided that the he could no longer produce milk at the prices that it was selling for. Earlier this year, Peter and Donald (his brother) returned Coal Farm to egg production. Modern free range equipment means that today’s free range eggs are just as hygienic as cage ones and our lucky hens have terrific views from their field overlooking the Firth of Forth in St Monans, along with their grass and fresh air. |
